“I believe in one, holy, CATHOLIC and apostolic Church” (Part 3)
Is “Catholic” just one more brand of Christianity among many? Are Catholics even Christians? Since the earliest days of the Church, “Catholic” has been an essential characteristic of the one Church of Jesus Christ. And even today, we can embrace that with joy!
“I believe in one, holy, catholic and APOSTOLIC Church” (Part 2)
Our American DNA tells us that “authority” is a bad word, something to avoid. “Don’t tread on me” is a foundation of our country, it’s the air we breathe! And yet, at the same time, we all revere and acknowledge our need for an authority (think of coaches, trainers, teachers). Perhaps, Jesus knew this. And instead of leaving His Church rudderless, with no guide, no authority, perhaps he gave her an concrete authority to lead and guide Her in His place. In fact, maybe part of the mystery of the Church is that Jesus continues to lead and guide His Church precisely through this authority.
“I believe in ONE, holy, catholic and apostolic Church” (Part 1)
The mystery of the Church extends far beyond the parish, or any particular local community. The Church is a great mystery in which we participate, and its roots go all the way back to creation itself. It is a love story between the Divine Bridegroom and His bride.
