Ever feel like you have all the pieces, but something still seems to be missing? Been a Catholic your whole life but something is still off?
If we look closely, we can see all the many ways we do not entrust our lives to Jesus. And if we look a little more closely, how those ways have left us weary and unfulfilled. “Rest”: this is what God’s Anointed brings, what we find by entrusting our lives to Him.
Ordinary Time can seem like the “boring time,” waiting for the more exciting times of Lent, Easter, Advent or Christmas. But Ordinary Time is an incredibly important time for us to grow.
Jesus doesn’t come to be a “good guy,” but he does come to do something described as “good.”
What does the Holy Family have to do with my family?
What are we celebrating? Why is everything still so messed up? Is there any hope?
It isn’t complicated. We desire a presence, not an idea.
When we hear about Jesus coming again to judge, and about the fire…yeah, excuse me for thinking that might not be such great news!
There was a moment when we decided we would do it ourself. And that was the same moment that “Jesus is our redeemer” became just another thing written on a Hallmark card.
Advent isn’t about Christmas cookies. Sorry.
